Job Description

Seek individual with extensive legal and managerial experience to oversee legal matters for the association and to assist in the management of NATO staff and operations.  The VP/General Counsel is based in Washington, D.C. and reports directly to the President/CEO.  Legal responsibilities include: Ensure that association activities comply with all applicable laws; provide legal advice to NATO’s President/CEO, officers, and Executive Board; interact with member counsel on litigation matters of concern to the industry; prepare amicus briefs on behalf of the association; oversee outside legal counsel and consultants; analyze legislative and regulatory proposals; negotiate and review contracts; and supervise association activities to ensure consistency with the articles of incorporation and bylaws.  Management responsibilities include: In cooperation with NATO’s Executive Director, manage the day-to-day activities and responsibilities of the Washington, D.C. office including oversight, development, and evaluation of staff, as well as direction, coordination, and evaluation of operations.  Strategic responsibilities include: Work with the President/CEO and senior staff to develop and execute the association’s strategic position on varied and complex issues.  Key industry issues include the transition from film to digital cinema; efforts to thwart movie theft (“piracy”); preservation of the theatrical release window; oversight and operation of the industry’s movie rating system; and varied legislative and regulatory proposals.

 
Requirements:

J.D. degree and at least five years of experience required, as well as a keen familiarity with antitrust laws applicable to trade associations and general laws pertaining to employment, contracts, copyrights, trademarks, and fiduciaries.  A complete position description is posted on NATO’s website at: www.natoonline.org.  Cover letter, resume, and salary requirements by December 2, 2009, to NATO’s Executive Director, Kathy Conroy, at kmc@natodc.com.
