Job Description

Lonely Planet’s vision is to develop television programming that entertains, educates and inspires people to travel. The core strategy is to place Lonely Planet programming on mainstream channels in key target markets, with the opportunity to create a global format and a franchise that can extend into all relevant media channels. The Head of Television is responsible for delivering Lonely Planet’s television strategy, including building Lonely Planet’s presence on television in all regions around the globe, maximising commissions, and accelerating the development of short form digital video content to feed lp.com, mobile and partner distribution. The Head of Television will work with and leverage BBCW’s capabilities to maximise the scale and scope of the Lonely Planet travel offering on television globally, but with a particular focus on the UK and US markets.

 

 
Requirements:

Required Experience:

• A sound knowledge of all aspects of the global television industry – including financing, production, distribution and emerging platforms.

• A proven track record in managing creative teams and projects

• Passionate about travel and about Lonely Planet – its culture and enthusiasm for its vision.

• A strategist and visionary with a global outlook who is self-motivated and can seek out and build opportunities.

• A strong communicator, negotiator and influencer – able to clearly articulate a vision, excite others, build relationships and work across the organisation.

• Excellent planning, organisational and time management skills and an ability to juggle multiple projects with competing priorities to deliver lasting, value-creating change.

• Proven experience leading and managing teams from culturally and professionally diverse backgrounds, and across multiple locations, including in other countries and remotely.

• Strong commercial and financial savvy – able to deliver projects on time and on budget while maintaining quality.

• Proven ability to implement strategies ensuring the delivery of key strategic activities to achieve business objectives.

• Experience with balancing the demand of fast innovation and experimentation against sustainable, integrated commercial solutions.

 • Flexibility to work outside of normal office hours if necessary.
